How was your party!

This is our new page of current topics from the Wedding and corporate world.

A bad day:-

I suppose we all have bad days now and again but last Sunday was the worst day at work I have ever had.
Those of you that know me will be aware how seriously I take my work and I always have backup computers, amps etc just in case we have a breakdown.
This said we where hosting the catwalk show at the Guild Hall and we could not get our console (which houses all of our technical kit) in the very old and very small lift, therefore we had no option but to take a computer out of the console and carry it upstairs the old way when the handle came off and it crashed to the floor!!!
We tested the battered computer and was relieved to find it worked fine "until the cat walk show when it crashed over and over in front of many potential customers" I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking what if this where to happen at my wedding! the answer is it would never happen we would never do a wedding without backup!!

I must admit I love dealing with wedding couples and making sure they get exactly what they wish for from their wedding evening.

Weddings should have the best of everything because it is the most important day of your life bar none! so I take the time to meet my couple twice during the process and listen to what they want (especially the bride) because they have thought about little else and usually know exactly what they want (If not I have the experience and ability to give them some ideas)

Why do few other DJ's see it this way? are they so clever they can read minds or are they so selfish they will not care what the couple want!

I have worked at venues with two or more weddings at one time and guests have come through to my room (even the bride on one occasion) and told me how bad their DJ is!

Please remember this IF YOU BOOK A DJ THROUGH A VENUE YOU WILL NEARLY ALWAYS GET A CHEAP SUB STANDARD DISCO!!!!
This is because the venue take money to book the disco and they book through an agent who also takes a cut.
meaning the DJ will receive much less money and will result in a poor quality show!

The moral of this story is book direct and do your homework!

Those that can't do Teach (Or do they)

In this business we come accross all kinds of people who turn to DJing because they think its easy money "I mean how hard can it be"!!!!

Recently we have seen dozens of small companies starting up a "Disco business" because they have been made redundant or had a cut in wages etc, Which is fine I dont have a problem with that and good luck to them.

But come on do you really want to risk your wedding evening to someone with little or no experience?

Many hotels and function venues tend to only look for one thing PRICE!! and if they can make some MORE Money by using a cheap DJ they will.

As well as this you will also find some Djs will do as little as possible for as much as possible!

By this I mean they will big up their promises but when the night comes dramatically reduce the level of equipment to the least nessasary to do the job in order to get home quicker at the end of the night!!

The moral of the story is do your homework and check people out! ask around (Not the venue) photographers, Balloons and decor people, Cake suppliers, etc they will usually know who the good ones are!!

Leave the in-experienced and lazy DJs to do the pubs and Cheezy parties and book the best for your wedding and corporate functions!
